Old Sturbridge Village is located in Sturbridge Massachusetts just off of I-84 and Hwy 21. It is a recreated 1830's New England Village that is open year-round. My oldest daughter and I visited it in ______ when she was ____ years old. I had previously lived in Massachusetts and travelled between my home and Wolcott, CT to visit family when I would see the signs for this historic site but never visited while I lived in New England. After moving to Ohio, we decided to go back and visit family when I decided to do a day trip to Sturbridge and visit.

A little history on the village - it is a museum depicting what a village or small town would have looked like in 1830's rural New England. It has many historic structures that were moved to the site and covers about 240 acres of land. In the town square there is a grassy area where the flagpole stands, and it is surrounded by a variety of businesses. When you go it is a self-guided tour but there is plenty to learn from the reenactors!

We had a wonderful time even though it was very cold and viewed many of beautiful houses that they show on their website as well as learning about what people would do and experience in the 1830's. Unfortunately, due to the time of the year, there were several exhibits that were closed but I think the most exciting part of the trip for my daughter was when she helped to raise the flag in the town square. One of the re-enactors asked her if she wanted to help and she enthusiastically said yes! Upon completing the job, the re-enactor asked her what she thought, and her answer was "That was hard because it was so windy!"  I wouldn't trade that experience for anything!
