A few years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Philadelphia and take a class on the Constitution while I was attending Ashland University. It was a fantastic experience in which I learned a tremendous amount of history. One of the interesting spots is Robert Morris's home which became known as Morris's Folly but was also where President Washington stayed when the US Capital moved there at the end of 1790.

Morris's home was a grand home fit for a king or in our case a President. Unfortunately, the home does not exist anymore but through excavation efforts, the foundations and basements were discovered. With this information as well as other documents, Philadelphia was able to recreate a ghost like structure showing walls and other things without making it enclosed. It is a fascinating place to visit as the pictures below show:

Unfortunately, I cannot find my trip pictures but when I do, I will update this post. I can tell you that the site looks different from the posted pictures due to information boards being added around the exhibit. Those boards focus heavily on slavery but also mention the other events of the house.

George Washington would live here from 1790-1797 and then John Adams moved in when he was elected President and stayed here until the White House was completed in 1801.

Philadelphia does a fantastic job of recreating and preserving their historic buildings in the Old City and I encourage everyone to at least make one visit to the Old City. You will not be disappointed.
